I grew up in Salinas, also known as the "Salad Bowl Capital of the World." So I know where food comes from. I have seen strawberries in the field. But my kids are city kids. They see strawberries in the grocery store, in those clear plastic baskets. I thought it was time to change that.
My kids tried many different veggies. J-Bear loved the onion, but J-Bean had no idea what to do with it! And J-Bean liked celery, but J-Bear...not so much. It was all organic!
The highlight was picking our own strawberries. I think we ate more than we picked!
I love homeschooling. We have the time for field trips! Yesterday, we visited a local organic farm and the kids had a ball. And they learned where our food comes from, along the way. My favorite kind of learning. I actually had a great time, too!
T, who loves me some strawberries

I love strawberries also, but the family pics blueberries each year. I hate blueberries.....
ahh Strawberries have to be my most favorite!! :) Yum-oh!
Salinas! Near my favorite area of California--Monterey!! Have you been the Steinbeck Museum!? Is it spiffy? That is something on my to-do list!
Thanks for stopping by my site! I would have written sooner but I hadn't checked that site in a long time!
Take care!!
ed: I thought I loved strawberries, but nothing prepared me for how good those berries tasted, straight off the plant, still warm from the sun. Oh amazing!
mustang girl: I am ashamed to say that all the time I lived in Salinas, I never did make it to the Steinbeck Museum. But I have been to the Steinbeck House. Over the years, different restaurants occupied it. I liked Salinas, loved Monterey but really prefer Southern CA. Not sure why, but I do.
