I'm Gonna WHAT?

I was driving home from band today with the kids, they were screaming, bickering, doing what they do. It was hot. The windows were down, because the cat (The one I HATE) peed on JBean's backpack and we didn't realize it until we were in the car for a while and there was nowhere to put it. Gah. My car isn't running right, so I can't use the A/C a lot, it makes the idle really rough. I need to get it in, but I can't coordinate when would be a good time with our schedule. And did I mention, my tooth really hurts?

So I popped in my Trace Adkins CD to find some peace, and "You're Gonna Miss This" started. As the first strains came in, I turned up the volume, swallowed the lump in my throat and said a silent prayer of thanks to God. We are all healthy. I have a car. And we have food, a place to live, and some money in savings. We have healthcare, so as soon as I schedule it, I can get my tooth dealt with quickly.

I came home, cuddled my daughter on the couch, put everything else on the backburner and just allowed myself to be in the moment. A few moments stolen for just us. And I emerged feeling refreshed.

So I present the video for you. Have tissues handy.

You're Gonna Miss This

She was staring out the window of their SUV

Complaining, saying "I can't wait to turn 18"

She said "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"

Mamma put the car in park out there in front of the school

Then she kissed her head and said "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this

You're gonna want this back

You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride

In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by

He tells her "It's a nice place"

She says "It'll do for now"

Starts talking about babies and buying a house

Daddy shakes his head and saysAnd s "Baby, just slow down"

Cause you're gonna miss this

You're gonna want this back

You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater

Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'

One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'

And she keeps apologizin'

He says "They don't bother me.

I've got 2 babies of my own.

One's 36, one's 23

.

Huh, it's hard to believe, but...

You're gonna miss this

You're gonna want this back

You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times

So take a good look around

You may not know it now

But you're gonna miss this"

Love that song. The plumber always gets me. One night a bunch of us 40-ish gals were sitting around my friend's garage/bar, "The Cantina." We listened to this song and shed a few years. Then one friend said, "You know, I'm gonnna miss THIS." I said, "What are you talking about...we're still going to be here when we are 75!!!" I hope.

Oh my, that is SOOOOOOO true. I have been married 35 years. My baby is 31 and my oldest son would be turning 33 this coming October (he died in a plane crash when he was 20). I have learned not to wish away a single moment, to enjoy them all because you really will miss them when they are gone.
Thanks for this reminder.
